Buying Sony PSP

1. Difference between PSP Go / PSP 3000 / PSP 2000 / PSP 1000
PSP 1000: Released in March 2005, this is the first edition of the PSP. Thickest and heaviest PSP of the lot. These have been out of production for 2 years. There is no more brand new sets available

PSP 2000: Released in September 2007, the second edition features reduced thickness and weight as compared to the first edition. There is no other marked improvements. These have been out of production for 1 year, there are now very few brand new sets left in the market.

PSP 3000: Released in October 2008, the third edition features a microphone and improved screen over the second edition. There is no other marked improvements

PSP Go: Release on 1st October 2009, the fourth edition is much thinner and lighter than the third edition. It features a new design with a slide keypad, 16gb internal memory and no UMD drives. Games have to be purchased online through Sony Playstation Network. Unlike previous releases, this edition is not meant to phase out the older editions.

2. Hackable?
PSP 1000: Yes

PSP 2000: Yes if your set is manufactured before July 2008 (Motherboard revision TA-88V2 or older) or if your set is at firmware version 5.03 or lower.

PSP 3000: Yes if your set is at firmware version 5.03 or lower.

PSP Go: No.

3. Difference between Local and Export set
Local set refers to PSPs we got direct from agent. These will come with 1 year official Sony warranty locally. We offer free Lifetime Service Warranty on all our PSPs. Customer can also consider our 2nd year Full Warranty at only $10.

Export set refers to parallel imported PSPs. These do not have warranty with Sony Singapore. We offer free Lifetime Service Warranty on all our PSPs. 2 year Full Warranty coverage is at $15.

4. What to buy
For PSP Go, you only need a screen protector and a casing. Buy your games from Sony Playstation Network online. For PSP Slim and PSP 3000, you should consider the All-in-one-bundle and console. There is a $4 discount if you buy a bundle and the console.

Items in the bundle:
Screen Protector: A must. The screen is big and scratches easily.
Memory Stick Pro duo: We only carry original memory cards. If you would like to compare the speeds, do check the Comparison Chart. If you find brand new memory cards selling at an unbelievably low price, most likely those are fakes. Identify fake memory cards.
Data Cable: If you don't already have one and your card reader cannot read memory stick pro duo, you need 1. Do check this link to check if you already have one at home.
Casing or Pouch: Protection for the PSP.
